This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using the project based learning model on scientific literacy abilities. The focus of this research is grade 5 students at MI Islamiyah Kalimukti as an experimental class. The type of research used is a descriptive method to describe the condition of students' initial abilities and students' final abilities after being given treatment using the project based learning model. The subjects of this research were 30 grade 5 students at MI Islamiyah Kalimukti. The data collection technique uses a scientific literacy ability test. The learning results for scientific literacy skills were then analyzed descriptively to describe the students' conditions. Next, to determine the effectiveness of using the project based learning model on scientific literacy skills, they were analyzed using the N-gain score. The results of the research showed that there was an increase in scientific literacy skills after being treated with the application of project based learning. This is evidenced by an increase in the average result of students' scientific literacy abilities, which was initially 48.50, increasing to 83.83. The results of the N-gain test obtained a value of 0.68 or 68, which can be interpreted as indicating that the use of project based learning is quite effective in improving the scientific literacy skills of grade 5 students at MI Islamiyah Kalimukti. Based on this description, it can be concluded that the use of appropriate learning design and design using project based learning can improve students' scientific literacy skills.
