Metacognitive skills for learning have become a central issue in 21st century learning. The aims of this review are (1) to map research topics on metacognitive skills in chemistry learning in the last twelve years. (2) To find out the publication aspect of metacognitive skills in chemistry learning. This research method is a survey. The subjects of the metacognitive skills research were 45 articles from the Scopus database and 35 articles focused on learning chemistry. The results of the review show that publications on metacognitive skills are increasingly fluctuating from 2012 to June 2024. Indonesia contributes the most publications of articles on metacognitive skills, namely 26 articles. The trend of metacognitive skills in chemistry learning is dominant at the high school and university levels, each 43%. Based on the role 23% of research focuses on metacognitive skills as input and 77% as outcomes.
